Appointment of Temporary Sheriff Principal

On recommendation of the Lord President, Neil Gray, Cabinet Secretary for Justice, has appointed Sheriff Stuart Reid as Temporary Sheriff Principal of the Sheriffdom of Glasgow and Strathkelvin.


The appointment is effective from 24 August 2026 when current Sheriff Principal Aisha Anwar becomes a Senator of the College of Justice.

Sheriff Reid was appointed as a Sheriff in Glasgow in 2011. He has been one of the three nominated commercial sheriffs at Glasgow for the last decade. In 2024, he was appointed as a judicial member of the Upper Tribunal for Scotland. In 2025, he was appointed as  an Appeal Sheriff in the Sheriff Appeal Court.

Sheriff Reid was admitted as a Solicitor in 1991. He joined Maclay Murray & Spens in 1992 specialising in Commercial Dispute Resolution and was assumed as a Partner there in 2000. He qualified as a solicitor advocate in 2000 (with extended civil rights of audience) and spent a year in Maclays’ London Office  where he gained experience of commercial litigation in the English High Court and County Courts.
