Sheriff Principal Derek Pyle

Derek Pyle was appointed Sheriff Principal of Grampian, Highland and Islands in 2012. Prior to that he was a sheriff based at Dundee for 13 years, apart from 3 years between 2005-2008 when he was a resident sheriff in Inverness.

He was previously a solicitor in Edinburgh, being a partner in a large corporate law firm specialising in commercial litigation. He was a member of the Judicial Appointments Board for Scotland for 6 years and was one of the founding members of the Scottish Courts Service (now the Scottish Courts and Tribunals Service) Board.
